The University of Dundee is seeking an innovative, informed, and energetic leader with wide experience and a professional approach to head its governing body, the Court.

The Chairperson of Court does not have executive powers, but must ensure that the Court is effectively led in reaching collective decisions and exhibits good governance. The Court plays a crucial role in the development of the University’s vision and strategic direction and ensures effective leadership and good governance. The vacancy, which arises in July 2019, will provide a rewarding opportunity to play a key role in building on the University’s recent successes and positioning it for future strategic development.
Ideal candidates will be able to demonstrate excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with experience in leading on strategic issues within a complex organisation. They will bring relevant expertise from their own area of experience. They will be able to demonstrate an understanding of governance in complex organisations, an awareness of the principles of public life, and a strong commitment to, and affinity for, higher education and the vision, strategic goals and values of the University of Dundee.
In accordance with the Higher Education Governance (Scotland) Act (2016), the appointment process will involve an interview, with suitable candidates subsequently standing for election by staff, students, and Court members of the University. The Chairperson will be entitled to non-pensionable remuneration which currently equates to a gross per diem rate of £321, and the commitment is anticipated to be in the region of 50 days per annum. The University will also meet reasonable costs incurred in carrying out the role including reimbursement for travel within the UK and care costs of dependants. The position is for three years in the first instance.
