Governors for Schools

The Committee of University Chairs recognises and promotes the value of good governance across the education sector.  We have been asked by Governors for schools to share the following information with you.

Governors for Schools finds and places volunteers on school and academy governing boards across England and Wales. School governance gives university staff and alumni the chance to support lifelong learning for children and young people. It also gives universities the opportunity to publicly affirm their commitment to social engagement.

School boards across the country need committed individuals to help drive strategic change. Creating local school links can support your organisation in improving equality of opportunity for all students and raising attainment in effective access and participation plans. Becoming a school governor is also a great form of CPD and supports lifelong learning and further development of skillsets.

Governors for Schools has successful partnerships with universities across England and Wales, and they are keen to connect with more universities so that more individuals can benefit from taking on a governance role in education. Read more about their university partnerships here.

As individuals who understand the importance of good governance, we would be grateful if you could promote this opportunity to your networks and universities—if they aren’t already working with Governors for schools.
