New member of the CUC team
30th January 2025
David Prynn – Policy and Governance Projects Coordinator
I am delighted to join the CUC as Policy and Governance Projects Coordinator. I am joining to offer policy advice and guidance to members and undertaking projects supporting CUC services to members.
I have over 25 years of experience working in the higher education sector. I started working in human resources with University College Birmingham, supporting the annual HESA data return. During this time, I started working toward my first degree in business management with the University of Central Lancaster. I was then appointed as the university projects officer. Based within the university registry, I managed all aspects of university graduation and its extenuating circumstances processes. I also acted as a quality officer for university examination boards and coordinated the external examiner function. During this time, I started working toward my postgraduate certificate in higher education administration, management, and leadership with Nottingham Trent University and the Association of Higher Education Professionals.
The University of Northampton then offered me the opportunity to join as the assistant clerk to the board of governors. I serviced the board of governor’s meetings and assisted the chair of the board, and the vice-chancellor as required. I supported clerking for the university technical colleges and coordinated the running of the university court. During this time, I started working toward my master’s degree in education (leadership and management) with the University of Bath.
To support my studies and gain leadership and people management experience I accepted the opportunity to manage the course administration team for a faculty at Birmingham City University. I was responsible for the course administration function across several schools for home and collaborative provision.
And now I am thrilled to be working with you. In my new role at CUC, I will:
- Provide high-quality policy advice and guidance to Chairs of University Governing Bodies.
- Analyze and interpret complex government policies and draft responses to consultations.
- Manage the CUC’s annual Vice-Chancellors Salary Survey, ensuring a smooth transition to new software and engaging with users to foster trust and credibility.
- Support CUC Networks, Regional Committees, and Plenaries by organizing meetings, preparing agendas, and producing reports and auditable minutes.
- Create engaging content for CUC’s website, newsletters, and social media.
This position is a critical opportunity to support CUC’s high-profile work, ensure positive outcomes for our members, and positively impact the governance and policy environment for universities across the UK.
I look forward to meeting each of you and am eager to contribute to our community. Please feel free to get in touch if there is anything I can assist you with.
With best wishes,
David Prynn
